Hello Everyone! I am Ms. Engelhardt and I will be your tour guide this year for our amazing trip through chemistry. I look forward to working with all of you over the next year. First off, let me introduce myself.

This is my fourth year teaching at FHN where I have taught chemistry, physics, and forensic science.  This year I am teaching Chemistry 215 and Physics 220. Before teaching at Northern, I taught in Ionia for 6 years and in Nebraska for 7 years. During my career I have taught almost every science class in middle school and high school, from 7th grade earth science to anatomy & physiology to physics.

I grew up in a rural town of about 300 people called Chambers, Nebraska.  Most of my family still lives there and I visit them every year. I graduated from the University of Nebraska and am happy that we are now part of the Big Ten Conference. Go Huskers!

My interests outside of school include lots of physical activity (yoga, kayaking, working out), plant-based cooking, writing, reading, local music, gardening, and traveling. When I was in high school, I participated in band, choir, plays, basketball, volleyball, and softball.

My nephews and I eating sour Skittles at my brother's softball game.

This summer at Pictured Rock in the UP.

I am passionate about helping students problem-solve and think like a scientist. Nowadays we can "google" anything we want to know, so synthesis, communication, and analysis are critical skills that we will practice as we learn chemistry. This clip from "Crash Course Chemistry" sums up how I feel about this class.

I am excited to get to know you this year!
