2.5 Cell Division

Hello everyone and welcome to the cell division online unit!

This next unit that we will be studying is slightly different from any previous unit. For the next week we will continue to finish our internal assessments in class, which will take away from some class learning time. Fortunately, the next unit on cell division lends itself well to an online unit where you will be able to learn the material at home.

prophaseI have also chosen this unit to be online because the IB objectives for cell division do not go much further beyond what you learned in 9th grade biology. This will make it much easier to learn the objectives for this unit. I do understand that some students may not remember everything they learned in 9t grade. This is why I have included all the information you need to know online.

I have also included a discussion forum and a wiki to promote student collaboration outside of class. Please use the forum to discuss any information that you need help with related to this unit. The wiki will allow everyone to post additional information related to the unit, including videos and animations.

In this unit, you will learn about each IB objective. I have also a few online simulations to support your learning. All students are expected to read over all of the unit material as well as complete the simulations. There is also a quiz to assess your learning. This quiz must be completed by DUE DATE.

I understand that this is a new way of learning and that some students may have difficulties. For this reason, I will be monitoring the discussion forum and wiki. I also ask that if you have any questions outside of class, please post your question on the discussion forum so everyone will be able to see the question and answer.

This unit will continue beyond the internal assessments. We will spend the next couple of days in class to go over questions on this unit. Therefore, please make sure to take note on what you would like to discuss in class.

The test for this unit will be DATE.

If you have any comments, questions, or concerns, please feel free to post them on the forum.
