How can I use this module?

minimum requirements

Welcome to this module

If you are completely new to Moodle, or have only used Moodle as a student, you should complete Part One.
Part Two is recommended once you have completed Part One and started developing your module. So Part Two is usually best taken a few days after Part One, depending on how much time you were able to dedicate to your own course(s).
Part Three focuses on more advanced features which you may leave aside until you have started teaching with Moodle. Usually a few weeks after your first introduction to Moodle. It's definitely worth completing Part Three as it looks at how dynamic (and fun) Moodle can transform your teaching.

Your playspace This module comes with a playspace page which you can use to practise, try things out and simply have a space which you can edit, of your own. You will need to be enrolled first however, so contact me to get one. I will need your first name, last name, email address, a username and password of your choice for tou to log in.

How can I use this training course?
You may either:
1. take a face-to-face workshop (max. 6 participants) and simply refer back to this module after the session to consolidate topics covered in the session. You can watch the video guides, for instance, to refresh your memory.

OR

2. If you can't attend a workshop and would like to learn the basics (Part One) or further features by yourself (Parts Two and Three), in your own time, then make your way through ALL the activities covered in the relevant topics.

How much time do I need?
Face-to-face sessions are designed with plenty of hands-on practice in mind.
Online training in your time will require about 4 hours for Part One, about 12 hours for Part Two and about 14 hours for Part Three (including practice in your playspace).
A good way to study on your own is to assign 2-3 hours once a week over 10-15 weeks to complete the course.

Where do I start?
You should follow the order for topics 1-9 for Part One but can dip in and out of topics in Parts Two and Three.
Some of you may want to watch all the videos first (at home, in the comfort of your sofa, for instance) and then cover the exercises.
Or you may prefer to work solidly from your PC and work your way through each video and accompanying exercises.
There is a short test after each topic to help you gauge your progress.

Short quizzes

The purpose behind each topic's short quizzes is to check that the key concept or functionality of a tool is understood. If you have just watched the videos or just completed the exercises, it should be quick and easy to answer them.
If you want to make sure that you retain information long-term you may prefer to take Tests Part 1 & 2/3 instead (same questions) at the end of the course only. These two longer tests count towards a certificate of completion which you can obtain if you pass 60%.

Get in touch if you'd like to receive an electronic certificate.
