Welcome to The Kent ISD Teacher Leadership Academy

Based on the International Society of Technology Technology Standards (ISTE)

The purpose of this resource is to provide ”Just in Time” training through an online course for K-12 educational leaders based on the International Society of Technology Technology Standards. These standards are the basic technology skills every educational leader should possess. In the process, educational leaders will develop their own skills and discover what teachers need in order to meet the ISTE standards for Teachers and Students. Participants who fulfill all of the requirements have the opportunity to earn SCECHs or Graduate Credit.

About the ISTE Family of Standards

The International Society for Technology in Education updated the Standards for Administrators (Standards•A) in 2009. The Standards define what teacher leaders and school administrators need to know and be able to do in order to discharge their responsibility as leaders in the effective use of technology in their schools.

The Standards-A are:

• Visionary Leadership
• Digital-Age Learning Culture
• Excellence in Professional Practice
• Systemic Improvement
• Digital Citizenship

How to Use This Site:

For each ISTE standard, there is an assignment that teaches multiple technology skills and integrates administrative use in a school setting. The assignments are also developed to aid educational leaders in utilizing and employing technology while working with teachers, students and the community.  In this course, you'll participate in or accomplish:

1. Virtual Sessions: Participate in the virtual sessions or view the video tutorials.

2. Review each ISTE Standard - Visionary Leadership, Excellence in Professional Practice, Digital Age Learning Culture, Digital Citizenship, or Systemic Improvement.

3. Review the topics from the list in the assignment: Select and review the topics which cover technology tools/skills needed to complete the activity at the end of each module. The topics are highlighted and linked to a page that has information, tutorials and additional resources to teach the skills. The technology skills built into each assignment are 21st century skills that every teacher leader should know.

4. Complete the Capstone Activity: Review the hands-on activity, or assignment using the tools/skills learned in the module. Each Capstone Activity should be completed by posting your response in the appropriate reflection forum assignment.

5. Complete your Time/Work Log.

6. Revisit the site or share with your Personal Learning Network.
