Printing Technologies Course Description:
The Printing Technology course prepares students for careers in the printing industry. Students learn by doing. Students learn the basics of the printing process. Those entering the Printing Technology program should have good problem-solving skills, mechanical aptitude and enjoy working with other people. Students learn the basic aspects of running a print shop through a hands-on approach. Instruction includes platemaking, the operation of various offset/digital printing presses, and Screen Printing. Once an assignment has been printed, the students will perform bindery/finishing operations such as: padding, stitching, trimming, folding, drilling and mounting.
Students will assemble and maintain a portfolio of their work, which will be graded throughout the course. Coursework is divided between lecture where students will receive basic instruction and information necessary to operate equipment and the lab where students will work towards independently operating the printing equipment.
Work exploration, job shadowing, college articulation, advanced placement and portfolio reviews with colleges, universities, and employers, may also be available for students. There is a job for just about everyone with an interest in working with his or her hands and mind to empower creative problem solving.
